Im zweiten Teil der Geschichte tritt das sogenannte "Thunderhead" mehr in den Vordergrund. Hierbei handelt es sich um eine künstliche Intelligenz, die für das Wohl der Menschheit sorgt. Während ich persönlich von der Möglichkeit in Zukunft die Lebensspanne des Menschen beliebig zu verlängern recht überzeugt bin, scheint es mir eher fragwürdig, ob eine künstliche Intelligenz jemals über ein derartiges Einfühlungsvermögen verfügen wird. Aber wer weiß...Die Spannung ließ vielleicht zu Beginn des Buches ein klein wenig nach, erreichte dann aber schnell wieder das Niveau des ersten Bandes. Ich kann den zweiten kaum erwarten.
Spoiler zum ersten Teil:Seit fast einem Jahr ist Citra nun Scythe Anastasia und hat ihre eigene Art des Nachlesens gefunden. Rowan hingegen wurde zu Scythe Lucifer und tötet Scythe, die ihr Amt falsch (z.B. voreingenommen) ausüben.In der Welt der Scythe kommt es zu einer großen Veränderung. Es gibt immer mehr Scythe der neuen Ordnung und bald wird klar, dass sich Scythe Anastasia und Scythe Curie in Gefahr befinden.Statt der Einträge einzelner Scythes, bekommen wir nun Gedanken des Thunderhead zu lesen, der die Entwicklung zwar beobachtet und fürchtet, sich aber nicht einmischen darf.Zudem lernen wir Greyson Tolliver kennen, der uns ganz neue Einblicke in diese Welt ermöglicht.Meine Meinung:Die ersten 200 Seiten haben sich leider etwas gezogen. Obwohl durchaus interessante Dinge geschehen sind, hat es sich wie ein typischer zweiter Band angefühlt, der auf das Finale vorbereitet.Wäre das nicht der Fall gewesen, hätte das Buch volle 5 Sterne von mir bekommen, da es danach einfach nur großartig wurde.Ich wollte das Buch wieder kaum aus der Hand legen und das Ende hat mich dann noch einmal so mitgenommen und absolut sprachlos gelassen. Ich hab wirklich keine Ahnung, wie ich jetzt noch so lange auf den dritten Teil warten soll.Dass wir dieses Mal mehr über den Thunderhead und seine Gedanken erfahren, hat mir unglaublich gut gefallen, auch wenn ich die Einträge der Scythes tatsächlich etwas vermisst habe. Die Gedanken des Thunderheads hatten aber auch etwas erschreckendes und ich bin schon gespannt, wie sich das ganze im letzten Teil entwickeln wird.Obwohl ich ein großer Fan der Handlung und der Charaktere der Reihe bin, ist mein Lieblingsaspekt der Reihe wohl, wie unglaublich toll Neal Shusterman die Welt ausgestaltet hat. Es gibt so viele Details, die überhaupt nicht zur Handlung beitragen, für uns teilweise unglaublich absurd sind, aber einfach ein perfektes Bild der Welt erzeugen.
After learning of the second installment I was excited to read it as soon as I could. While the first book introduced the story at a moderate pace, Thunderhead speeds everything up and adds even more thrill and suspense to every single chapter. The story and the whole world it takes place in evolve continually, more core characters are introduced to the point that we sometimes have more than five different perspectives from which the story is told, giving it a depth and complexity that is more than worthy of this amazing utopian/dystopian world.And that's not even mentioning the final chapters. I both love and hate stories that introduce a world with set rules and laws in whose framework everything takes place and then without warning shatter everything and leave you shocked and in awe with absolutely no idea what to think or expect next. Oh and finally I would like to express my greatest respect to Scythe Curie. The one scene near the end when she finally shows what she's really made of, that...was...just...WOW.If the third book can pick up the stakes where the second left off, then it is going to be phenomenal.
Lots of plot twists here. The Thunderhead, almost all knowing, has made errors of judgement in the past. The Scythes are divided. With an unexpected cliff hanger endibg. At first I didn't enjoy it as much as book 1 but began to like the way the story was going at the end.Dfinately a good, thought-provoking read.
...and better! I enjoyed this book even more than I did Scythe. And I didn't think that was possible. The main focus in this one is (obviously) on the Thunderhead and we get a lot more of a insight on how sentient it actually is. We also get to know a few new characters which seem pretty brilliant as well and I can't wait for the third book and see how Neal Shusterman will bring back some other characters! (no spoilers...)
